Encieh Erfani was an Assistant Professor of the Physics Department at the IASBS, Iran since Dec. 2015. She resigned from her position in support of protests in September 2022 and now is an exiled scholar. She obtained her Ph.D. degree from
Bonn University, Germany in 2012. Her research area is Theoretical Physics and in particular Cosmology. She is an International Science Council (ISC) fellow, a Junior Associate of the
ICTP, Italy, a
TWAS Young Affiliate member, and a Global Young Academy (GYA) member. She was an executive committee member of GYA, 2021/2023, and co-chair of the "Preservation of Science" task team "Science in Exile" project of TWAS/ISC/IAP. She was a visiting researcher at
ICTP-SAIFR, Brazil under the TWAS fellowship, and also a Post-Doctoral fellow of the
School of Physics in the
IPM, Iran. She did also a one-year
Postgraduate Diploma Programme of ICTP (2007-2008). She is the founder of the "
Yar-e-Danesh Fund", 2019 which provides financial support to students. She is also on the board of directors of the
Iranian Astronomy Society and the founder of its female branch. Studying in three different countries, being familiar with four languages (English, French, Spanish, and German), working in several international institutes and universities, and organizing many scientific activities (for the public) provided her with a unique set of skills to communicate, understand problems and find solutions. She is passionate about teaching, promoting science in public, and helping young students, especially females through international collaborations.
