Sumitra Rajagopalan

Sumitra Rajagopalan is a materials scientist, biomechanical engineer, lecturer and the founder of Bioastra Technologies, a Canadian company at the forefront of smart materials for health and environmental applications. Over the past decade, she has led the development and deployment of novel materials technologies for a wide range of applications including infection control, food waste mitigation, thermoregulation during heat stress and medical simulators for surgical training. On behalf of Bioastra, she has won numerous awards including EY Technology Entrepreneur of the Year, Open Innovation Champion and Canada's Fastest Growing Companies. She has lived and worked in many countries including Canada, Russia, India and Cuba. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. She obtained her B.Sc in Polymer Chemistry along with graduate degrees in Polymer Science and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Montreal.
